Laniyah H. Wins First Ever RHK8 Poetry Slam

Students' creativity and word power were on display during the First Ever Richmond Hill K-8 Poetry Slam. Both face-to-face and online students participated in this virtual Title 1/Literacy Event that united the school community. Students learned about figurative language, similes, metaphors, symbolism, and form before writing their poems. Teachers chose the best poem from each class, and students voted for the best from their grade. Judges then scored the ten semifinalists' performances using a rubric. The student from each hallway with the highest score advanced to the Grand Prize Round.

1st place ($75 Finish Line gift card and $25):

Laniyah H. from Mr. Knight's 5th Grade Homeroom

2nd place ($50):

The ten semi-finalists received personalized tote bags with books, journals, pencils, erasers, bookmarks and gift cards to local restaurants. Participants' poems will be published in an anthology that will be available for purchase.
