Personal Space Camp

This story addresses the important skill of respecting others' personal space while at school. We will discuss what personal space is. We will learn that some people prefer more space than others, and this is okay. In addition, we will learn that not respecting personal space can make others feel unsafe or threatened. Respecting personal space will make everyone feel happy and safe.

Extension Activities

Picture It!

  • Take pictures of yourself with your friends and family modeling appropriate personal space.
  • Create a photo album or slide show using your pictures.
  • Write a sentence or label your photos to further explain what you've learned about personal space.

Space Bubbles

  • Draw three concentric circles onto a large sheet of paper.
  • Using post it notes, write down the names/titles of people that can be closest to you on the inside circle with others filling the outside circles as you choose. Use the picture below as an example.

Chart It!

  • Grab a sheet of paper and a writing utensil.
  • Fold your paper to make two columns.
  • Label one column "good choice" and the other "bad choice".
  • Write or draw some of the activities from our story that are modeled good choices and bad choices.

People Planets!

  • Turn your family and friends into planets to model good personal space!
  • First cut a "wreath" shape out of a plate.
  • Next, paint your paper plate "wreath" a dark color: black, deep purple, navy blue, etc.
  • Next, cut small circles out of paper and decorate them to look like your favorite people's faces.
  • Once your paint is dry, glue your faces onto your paper plate "wreath" keeping everyone with proper personal space.
